SPICE Camp Instructors Needed!

SPICE needs volunteers for our signature camps!

SPICE camp provides engaging hands on science for girls entering 6th, 7th & 8th grade. One of the key elements of SPICE camp is providing enthusiastic relatable role models who share their passion for science. You can volunteer or apply to be a lead instructor for one of our camps. SPICE offers two camp sessions.

Session 1 - July 11-22nd

Session 2 - August 8-19th

Discovery Camp - This camp for rising 6th grade girls kicks off with a Science Scavenger Hunt and wraps up with an Amazing Science Race. Campers cover topics from grossology, to spectroscopy in a survey of science disciplines that emphasizes data collection. This year Discovery camp will be offered in session 1 & 2.

Volunteers needed for:

  • Setting up activities
  • Leading games
  • Chaperoning campers
  • Assistant instruction
  • Leading science activities


Forensic Investigation Camp - This camp for rising 7th grade girls covers techniques for collecting and analyzing evidence in subject from geology, to chemsitry, to psychology. Campers learn real forensic investigation techniques and solve their own mini-mystery at the end of camp. This year Forenscis Camp will be offered in session 1 & 2.

Engineering and Computer Science Camp - This camp for rising 8th graders covers programing, electronics, design, and simple construction. Campers design and build their own fully functional pinball tables using Arduino baords, sensors, score boards, sound, and mechanical components.

Volunteers needed for:

  • Assist camper swith programming (full training provided)
  • Leading games
  • Chaperoning campers
  • Assistant instruction
  • Consulting on pinball table design

 

Combustion Camp - (Last week in June) 2016 will be the inaugural year for the 4th SPICE camp for rising 9th graders. Combustion camp will take place 4 afternoons TBD in the last week of June. Daily Themes include: Burn, Baby Burn, Under Pressure, Can't Touch This, and BOOM! Volunteer helpers needed!

Volunteers needed for:

  • Supervising activites to ensure safety
  • Assisting with set up
  • Assist with activities
  • Experience with chemistry is prefered.

Can I just volunteer for a few hours?

Sure! If you have limited time and want to volunteer for camp you can act as a chaperone, assist with an activity, lead games, or help with set up/clean up of activities.
